Don’t waste your time convincing the nonbeliever

I love meeting new people. And of course with that comes the whole “what do you do?…Oh really, what do you do?” dance. And although it doesn’t happen often, sometimes when they hear I am a chiropractor they feel the need to share:

“I don’t believe in chiropractic!”

Now, early in my career that use to rattle me. I felt like I needed to “convert” them. Get them to see things my way. Then one day, I thought to myself…Big Deal, it doesn’t matter if they believe.

See, people “believe” a lot of junk and sometimes people “believe” what is true. And other times people don’t know what they “believe” or why. And guess what? It’s not always up to you and I to get them to “believe”.

When it comes to whether or not someone “believes” in what you have to offer. Sometimes you need to implement the old adage: “some will…some won’t…some do…some don’t…so what…who’s next“.

Why?

Because the people who need and believe in what you and I have to offer are just around the next corner. Better to find them and serve them well than wasting time trying to convince all the nonbelievers.

Thoughts?

Do you waste too much time on the nonbeliever?

Great point Jack…too often we put value in what others think, you can see that in what some people drive, right? I used to think like that way too much. My value comes from within, now. We can’t control what others think or say…so why waste the energy!

yes Doug. I also think we get so taken out by the “nonbelievers” and “non receivers” that we end up doing a disservice to those who need and benefit from what we have to offer. It’s the whole “trying to be all things to all people” thing. hope u r well. J

Works for professions, churches, politics … people choose what they’re attracted to, and the choice is rarely based on reason.

      So true Rich.

I thought of something Kevin Miller said when I read this. We spend money we don’t have, to buy things we don’t need, to impress people we don’t even like.

No doubt B. I am familiar with that line.
